Our projects
Early Food Course. We offer cooking classes for new parents. With smarts tips and tricks, it's easy to make tasty and nutritious baby food – based on the family dinner! We aim to give parents confidence to make safe and healthy baby food themselves. We share our experience and knowledge, provide a brief introduction to ingredients and simple techniques.
Kindergarten Courses. Enjoying food is crucial at an early age – and so is understanding where the food comes from. We have several programmes for both children and adults in kindergartens. We provide inspirational courses and professional development for the staff, as well as lectures. With us, kids gets to participate in creating good food from scratch and experiencing that food tastes best when you've been involved in the making. Food is a significant and useful tool in a holistic approach to children's development. Through involvement in cooking , we strengthen the sense of belonging and lay the foundation for lifelong skills and good health.
After School Programs How can you create tasty and nutritious meals with the children – meals that fit the budget and suit the hectic everyday life at after-schoool care? Our project aims to enhance the skills of those working with food for children at After-School Care (AKS/SFO). Cooking together is enjoyable, and by involving the children in the process, you gain valuable helpers, role models, and communicators. The oldest students at SFO (8-9 years) become food agents. They learn to prepare delicious and healthy dishes for the other children at SFO. Knowledge and skills empower children to make good food choices – for themselves, for others, and for the planet. We provide training for both children and staff, raising the level of knowledge and skills while motivating and inspiring. We demonstrate how fun and easy it is to create truly delicious and healthy meals – together with the children!
School Education. Each year, we impact 70,000 children through our food and nutrition education programs, both in-person and digitally. Grounded in the principles of food, health, and sustainability, we integrate cultivation and cooking with natural sciences, history, geography, language, and mathematics. Interdisciplinary teaching stands as one of our foundational pillars. Food culture provide insights into our identity, our surroundings, the natural ingredients available, and how we use them. Children gain an understanding of their social responsibility as consumers in relation to local and global food production and waste, as well as how to use resources judiciously. They explore sustainable ingredients, reflect on the components of a healthy and sustainable meal, comprehend the concept of safe food, and acquire skills in food preparation and serving, and enjoy meals together.
After-School at Geitmyra. Every week, we organize an after-school program for children from 5th to 7th grade. It is an open gathering place where we emphasize food, farm life, sustainability, and urban farming. Here, children can socialize, make new friends, and taste new things!
Geitmyra's Cooking School. is a 4 days free cooking course for youth during school holidays. During the course, we cook together, learn cutting techniques, cooking methods, kitchen hygiene, and prepare nutritious, sustainable and tasty dishes. At the end of every class, we sit together, eat the food we have prepared and discuss sustainability, flavours and how to make good food choices.
Tomorrow's food producers. What will we eat in the future, and who will prepare it? Our food industry plays a critical societal role. Inadequate recruitment and expertise in primary and secondary industries will have significant economic and societal consequences in the years to come. Tomorrow's Food Producers is a program where we, in a fun, practical, and inspiring manner, provide information and knowledge about the food-related career paths in high school.
Junior Chef and Junior Gardener at Work. At all our centers, we train junior chefs. Youth, 13-17 years old, learn to cook and prepare meals for others. They get employment, and earn money. This is a win-win situation for everyone. To become a junior chef, the youth must participate in a cooking course at Geitmyra. During these courses, they learn to create healthy, tasty, and sustainable dishes. Each course day consists of a theoty part, hands-on cooking and training in kitchen routines. Kitchen exercises are drilled and repeated to ensure everyone can work efficiently and safely. Thee chefs also learn how to collaborate in the kitchen.
Cultivation. At all our centers, we cultivate edible plants. We use them in all cooking activities, providing a great way to teach children about the origins of their food. In Oslo and Ringsaker, we have greenhouses where we provide lessons, cooking courses, and open family days. We also train junior gardeners who assist us with cultivation and in educational activities.
Open events and leisure courses. Every year we organize open family days. We explore the seasons, local resources, different cultures, and have themed festivals. Everyone who visits us should have tasted and learned something new before they leave. We also organize leisure courses for children, youth, and parents.
